Valentina Dobreva
Valentina Dobreva is from Targovishte. She is a graduate of the National Academy of Music “Pancho Vladigerov” in Sofia, where she majored in Choir Conducting and Ethnomusicology. She is currently doing her Ph.D. in Ethnomusicology at the NAM.
Q.: How long have you been involved with music?
A.: I’ve been doing music since I was six. I grew up in the family of folk musicians. I started off with piano and music theory lessons and, in secondary education, had an interest in folk music and song.
Q.: From which geographical area is the costume you wear on stage?
A.: From the Rhodope folklore area.
Q.: Which is your favorite folk song?
A.: ‘Sonyo,Sonyo, You My Sonyo’.
Q.: What is the Cosmic Voices from Bulgaria Choir for you?
A.: A challenge.
Q.: Your favorite Bulgarian proverb?
A.: As the call, so the echo (What goes around comes around).
Q.: What is music to you?
A.: Something I could not live without. Indeed, music is my life.
Q.: What inspires you?
A.: Positive emotional experiences.
Q.: What are your dreams?
A.: Dreams are something sacred for me. More important is not what you dream of, but rather pointing your attention, wishes and efforts towards turning your dreams into reality.
